José Ornelas Carvalho (2015)

José Ornelas de Carvalho SCJ (born January 5, 1954 in Porto da Cruz , Madeira , Portugal ) is a Portuguese religious , former Superior General of the Sacred Heart Priests (Dehonians) and Bishop of Setúbal .

Life

The General Chapter of the Sacred Heart Priests elected him in 2003 as the successor to the Argentinian Virginio Domingo Bressanelli as Superior General of the religious community. In 2009 he was confirmed for a second term of office, which ended at Pentecost 2015 with the election of his successor Heiner Wilmer by the General Chapter.

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Setúbal on August 24, 2015 . The Patriarch of Lisbon , Manuel Cardinal Clemente , ordained him episcopal on October 25th of the same year. Co- consecrators were his predecessor Gilberto dos Reis and the Bishop of Angra , António de Sousa Braga SCJ.
