The Jose Rizal Memorial Protected Landscape is located in the Zamboanga del Norte Province , in the Philippines . It was established by Presidential Decree No. 279 on April 23, 2000 in the area of Dapitan City. The Jose Rizal Memorial Protected Landscape was established in honor of the Filipino national hero José Rizal . It covers an area of 439 hectares and a circumferential buffer zone with a size of 15 hectares . The Jose Rizal Memorial Protected Landscape is overseen by Jose Rizal Memorial State University .
The house that Rizal was assigned during his exile is located in the nature reserve and stands on the coast of the Sulu Sea . A memorial stone was also erected to commemorate his presence from 1894 to 1896.
