Joseba Segura Etxezarraga (born May 10, 1958 in Bilbao ) is a Spanish clergyman and Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop in Bilbao .

Life

Joseba Segura Etxezarraga received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Bilbao on January 4, 1985 .

After further studies, he obtained a degree in psychology from the Universidad de Deusto and was awarded a Dr. theol. PhD . He also earned a doctorate in economics from Boston College .

In addition to various tasks in pastoral care, he was diocesan representative for Caritas and a member of the priestly council . From 2006 to 2017 he worked in Ecuador as a member of the Bishops' Conference for charitable issues. After returning to his home diocese, he became pastor again. He was appointed Vicar General of the Diocese of Bilbao in April 2018 and took up this office on September 18 of the same year.

Pope Francis appointed him titular bishop of Basti and auxiliary bishop in Bilbao on February 12, 2019 . The Bishop of Bilbao, Mario Iceta , donated him on 6 April of the same year in the Cathedral of Bilbao , the episcopal ordination . Co- consecrators were the retired Archbishop of Saragossa , Manuel Ureña Pastor , and the Archbishop of Oviedo , Jesús Sanz Montes OFM .
