Josef Brunner (politician, 1909)

Josef Brunner (born June 21, 1909 in Munich ; † 1982 ) was a German CSU politician . He was general secretary of the CSU .

Life and politics

Josef Brunner was a banker in Munich until 1929 . He then studied economics in Berlin from 1929 to 1933, where he was also chairman of the local association of center students from 1930 to 1933 . In 1933 he was a consultant in the General Secretariat of the German Center Party . In 1945 he was one of the founders of the CSU. Brunner was Deputy Secretary General from 1949 to 1952. In December 1952 he was appointed General Secretary to succeed Franz Josef Strauss . In addition, he was a member of the CSU state executive from 1950 to 1954 and was entrusted with the duties of CSU state manager from 1951 to 1954. In 1954 he resigned from all offices due to financial irregularities. He was replaced by Heinz Lechmann as General Secretary.
