meaning

During Donabaum's tenure as director of the national library, the important period of upheaval after the end of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy fell. He directed the transfer of the holdings of the former court library to the state property of the Republic of German-Austria , while at the same time successfully fighting to fend off the claims of the successor states of the monarchy and thus to preserve the unity of the valuable manuscript collection. In addition, under him in 1920 the name was changed to the National Library and the library was reorganized, during which he incorporated the portrait collection and the Fideikommiss library into the national library. He also re-established the theater collection.
