Josef Guttenbrunner
Josef Guttenbrunner (born February 28, 1917 in Strasbourg , Carinthia ; † October 31, 2000 in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee , Carinthia) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ).
Life
Josef Guttenbrunner's younger brother was the writer Michael Guttenbrunner (1919–2004).
After attending primary school in Althofen and the secondary schools in Friesach and Klagenfurt, Josef Guttenbrunner graduated from a teacher training institute in Klagenfurt, where he passed the teacher qualification test in 1941. During the Second World War , Guttenbrunner worked as a primary school teacher at schools in Bleiburg , Kirchbach , Sankt Lorenzen im Lesachtal and Feldkirchen in Carinthia , before taking up his first post as primary school director at the school in Reichenau in 1945 . In 1946 he came to the school in Ebenthal in Carinthia , which he took over as elementary school director from 1950. It stayed that way until 1979.
After the war Guttenbrunner began his political career as local party chairman of the SPÖ-Ebenthal. In 1953 he was elected chairman of the Austrian Socialist Teachers' Association for the state of Carinthia. A year later, in 1954, he moved into the Ebenthal municipal council for the SPÖ , to which he was to belong for 18 years until 1972. From 1962 to 1972 Guttenbrunner served as Vice Mayor of his home municipality.
In March 1958 he was sworn in as a member of the Federal Council in Vienna . In the five years to which Guttenbrunner belonged to the second Austrian Chamber of Parliament until October 1963, he served as President of the Federal Council from July to December 1960 .
After leaving the Federal Council, he moved to the Carinthian state parliament in 1963 as a member of the SPÖ . Guttenbrunner was a member of the state parliament for 19 years, until 1982. In 1975 he was elected third and in 1979 first president of the state parliament. In 1982 he retired into private life.
He died in October 2000, at the age of 83.
