Josef Höß (politician)

Josef Höß (born December 25, 1931 in Aach im Allgäu , today Gde. Oberstaufen ) is a former German local politician of the CSU . From 1970 to 1990 he was Lord Mayor of the independent city of Kempten (Allgäu) .

Life

Höß was born the son of farmers. His parents ran a small farm in Aach near Oberstaufen . In 1946 he came to the Stella Maris student home in Kempten (Allgäu) and attended the Kempten Humanistic Gymnasium , where he graduated from high school in 1952. From 1952 to 1957 he studied law and economics at the University of Munich . In 1957 he passed the first state examination in law and the second state examination in 1962. Between the state examinations, he received his doctorate in 1960 at the Law and Political Science Faculty of the University of Würzburg .

His first professional position was a position as a financial assessor from 1962 at the Bavarian financial administration in Augsburg. In 1964 he became city treasurer in Kempten. He was elected mayor of Kempten in 1970 to succeed August Fischer . During his 20-year tenure, the city grew through the territorial reform . He influenced the construction of the vocational school center , the Cambodunum-APC Archaeological Park and the Kempten University of Applied Sciences .

After losing the local elections in 1990 to Wolfgang Roßmann (SPD), he went to Dresden in 1990 as an advisor to the East German Ministry of Construction. From 1991 to 1999 he was the councilor for finances and real estate and mayor of the city of Dresden. After retiring from professional politics, he worked as a lawyer in Dresden.

He headed the Saxon State Association of the Red Cross from 1998 to 2006. He has retired and lives in Kempten again with his second wife. Since 1952 he has been a member of the Catholic student association KDSt.V. Rheno-Franconia Munich.
