Georg Volkhardt

Georg Volkhardt (born November 10, 1885 in Nuremberg , † June 4, 1953 in Munich ) was a German politician and member of the Bavarian Senate .

Life

Volkhardt attended elementary school and the Melanchthon high school in Nuremberg . After graduating from high school, he studied law and art history in Erlangen , Munich and Berlin and passed both state examinations. In 1912 he was appointed head of the newly established municipal news office in Neuburg an der Donau . In the same year he began as a lecturer at the municipal building school and at the royal technical center in Nuremberg. He was deputy legally qualified magistrate for a year, then a soldier in the First World War and from 1916, also for about a year, deputy head and consultant of the Food Office in Nuremberg. From 1917 until his impeachment in 1933 he was the first mayor of Kaufbeuren , during which time he was also the first chairman of the local Red Cross . Towards the end of the First World War he was a member of the Swabian District Administrator in Augsburg . From 1918 to 1933 he was honorary chairman of the supervisory board of the non-profit building cooperative Kaufbeuren. From 1922 to 1933 he was a member of the administration and the auditing committee of the state employers' association of Bavarian municipalities and municipal associations. In 1933 he moved to Munich, where he worked as a legal writer. From 1935 on he worked as a lawyer for ten years. In 1945 he was reappointed the first mayor of Kaufbeuren by the American occupation government, and he was now also chairman of the board of directors of the Wertach electricity works there. As part of the first local elections in Bavaria, he was elected Lord Mayor of Kempten (Allgäu) in 1948 , where he co-founded the Allgäu Festival Week; he held this office until 1952. In addition, he held the office of chairman of the administrative board of the Allgäuer Überlandwerk as well as the deputy chairman of the supervisory board of housing aid in the administrative district of Swabia . In 1946 Volkhardt was a member of the Advisory State Committee; from 1947 to 1951 he was a member of the Bavarian Senate.
