Josef Kalina
Josef "Joe" Kalina (born January 19, 1958 in Vienna ) is an Austrian entrepreneur and former politician ( SPÖ ). From 2007 to 2008 he was federal manager of the SPÖ, from 1997 to 2000 Viktor Klima's chancellor spokesman .
Life
Kalina graduated in 1977 with the Matura . Then he did community service . From 1978 to 1983 he worked as a banker .
In the 1970s Kalina got involved in the Socialist Youth (SJ), where he also met the later Federal Chancellors Alfred Gusenbauer , Werner Faymann and the later SPÖ politicians Doris Bures and Josef Cap . From 1982 onwards he was State Secretary of the Socialist Youth in Vienna, then Federal Secretary of the SJ.
In 1985 he became editor of the socialist correspondence , the press service of the SPÖ. In 1987 he switched to the internal political editorial office of the Arbeiter-Zeitung . In 1989 he became head of the press service of the SPÖ federal party. He held this position until 1995 when he became head of the press service of the Vienna party under Mayor Michael Häupl .
In 1997 he switched back to federal politics and took over the role of spokesman for Chancellor Viktor Klima , succeeding Karl Krammer . Alongside Andreas Rudas and Heinz Lederer, Kalina was one of the Federal Chancellor's three “ spin doctors ”
After 3 years he switched to the Kronen Zeitung . There he was initially editor in the chronicle department and later managing director of the free newspaper division of Mediaprint . Later he was also involved in the founding of the first Vienna subway newspaper (now Today).
In 2005 he returned to the SPÖ and became head of communications for the party under Chancellor Alfred Gusenbauer , with the task of bringing a stringent line into the party's public communication and ensuring that Gusenbauer, the head of the opposition at the time, had more media coverage. His predecessor in this function was Katharina Krawagna-Pfeifer .
When Alfred Gusenbauer became Federal Chancellor in 2007, Kalina rose to become Federal Managing Director of the SPÖ. He followed his party colleague Doris Bures . Together with him, Reinhard Winterauer was appointed federal manager, who was to take over internal communication, while Kalina was responsible for the external presentation of the SPÖ.
On November 22, 2007, Kalina took over a mandate from Gertraud Knoll in the Austrian Federal Council. He exercised this until November 24, 2010.
At the end of 2008 Kalina founded the consulting company UNIQUE relations. The PR agency has u. a. specialized in strategic communication, public affairs, crisis communication , networking and lobbying . In March 2014 Kalina founded UNIQUE research together with market researcher Peter Hajek. The market research company is u. a. active in the areas of reputation analysis, competitor analysis and trend research. The agency also carries out surveys on the political situation for Austrian newspapers and magazines at regular intervals.
