Josef Karl Mayr (born June 8, 1900 in Goldwörth ; † March 19, 1979 ) was an Austrian civil servant and agricultural specialist who was, among other things , chamber office director of the Upper Austrian Chamber of Agriculture from 1938 until the annexation of Austria and from 1945 to 1967 .

Josef Karl Mayr was born on June 8, 1900 as the son of Josef and Maria Mayr (née Malfert) in the small community of Goldwörth in the upper Mühlviertel . After attending elementary school in Feldkirchen an der Donau , he moved to the grammar school in Wilhering and then to the state grammar school in Linz , where he graduated from high school in 1918 . Subsequently, Mayr began to study agriculture at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna , which he graduated as Dipl.-Ing. completed. During his studies he came into contact with the KÖStV Kürnberg , founded in 1900 , a color-bearing and non-striking student union and member of the Austrian Cartel Association (ÖCV), of which he became a member on February 28, 1919 and was given the couleur name Fridolin .

After completing his studies, Mayr entered the service of the Upper Austrian Chamber of Agriculture , where he initially worked in the crop production inspection. Over the years, the agricultural specialist rose to higher positions and was appointed chamber director in 1938. After the annexation of Austria , however, he was removed from this post and instead received a subordinate position in the so-called Reichsnährstand . In 1944 Mayr was put into military service and drafted into the Wehrmacht as a driver . After the Second World War , Mayr was rehabilitated as Chamber Director of the Upper Austrian Chamber of Agriculture and held this position until his retirement on December 1, 1967. During his tenure he was given the official title of Hofrat . He was honored several times throughout his life and was among other things holder of the Golden Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria , as well as an honorary citizen of the community of Feldkirchen an der Donau.

Mayr died on March 19, 1979 at the age of 78. He was married to Anna Lechner (1903–1983) on November 25, 1925; The children Anna (1927–1991), Erika (* 1931) and Josef (* 1934) came from this marriage. Both his son Josef and his grandson Josef are members of the Kürnberg; Until his retirement in 1995, his son Josef was also agricultural director in Upper Austria.
