Josef Kinzel (born May 4, 1852 in Lobenstein / Austrian Silesia , † August 4, 1925 in Spitz an der Donau ) was an Austrian landscape and genre painter.

Josef Kinzel studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Eduard von Engerth , Karl von Blaas , Carl Wurzinger and August Eisenmenger and, from October 25, 1879, at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich with Alois Gabl and Otto Seitz .

In 1883 he became a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus . From 1900 he visited the Lower Austrian Wachau , first Joching , from 1905 Weißenkirchen and from 1919 Spitz an der Donau .

He was mainly concerned with genre painting, but also created landscape paintings.

Many of his works also appeared in the form of woodcuts.

He was awarded the small Golden State Medal in 1903 and the Drasche Prize in 1910.

His daughter Elisabeth Hermine (Liesl) Kinzel (born May 18, 1886 in Vienna, † July 19, 1961 in Spitz an der Donau) became a painter.
