Josef Klose (Polish: Józef Klose , also Joseph Klose ; born October 3, 1947 in Sławięcice ) is a former Polish football player of German origin.

Career

The son of butcher Erwin Klose and his wife Gertrud Panek began his career at Energetyk Sławięcice . At the age of 16 he made his debut in the 1st team. From 1966 the striker ran for Odra Opole and won the league cup in 1977 with the club, which qualified for participation in the 1977/78 UEFA Cup . There, the Klose team was eliminated in the first round against 1. FC Magdeburg .

In November 1978 he moved to France to AJ Auxerre in Division 2 . His compatriots Maryan Szeja and Szylko , who played at AJA, recommended him to the coach at the time, Guy Roux . Ten days later, Klose made his debut in an away game in Ajaccio; a week later he scored a goal in the home game against Saint-Die. With the club he reached the French Cup final in 1979 . With a goal against OSC Lille (quarter-finals) and an assist against Racing Strasbourg (semi-finals) he had a share in qualifying for the final. In 1980 he rose with the team in Division 1 . There he made his first division debut in the 2-0 defeat by SEC Bastia on July 24, 1980. Since the number of foreigners per club was limited to two and his compatriot Andrzej Szarmach was signed in 1980 , he only made 14 first division appearances (2 goals) and played mainly in AJ Auxerre B in Division 3 . In 1981 Klose moved to the fourth division Football Club Chalon , with whom he rose to Division 3 in 1982. After two more seasons, Klose ended his active career. He then returned with his family to the People's Republic of Poland in Upper Silesia . In 1985, he and his family emigrated to Germany as a resettler due to poor prospects and settled in Kusel in the Palatinate .
