Josef Mayworm

Josef Mayworm (born May 22, 1877 in Attendorn ; † February 20, 1953 there ) was a social democratic politician. He was one of the founders of social democracy in the Sauerland in the Electorate of Cologne .

Mayworm was a lathe operator and in 1896 was one of the founders of the SPD local association in Attendorn. He was elected chairman. The constituency organization for the Reichstag constituency Arnsberg - Meschede - Olpe emerged from the local association . For a long time, this was closely linked to the Attendorn local association. In 1904 the constituency organization and subdistrict of the party for the Sauerland moved to Neheim , but returned to Attendorn in 1907. Mayworm became its chairman. In 1912 Mayworm ran for the first time as a city councilor and was defeated.

During the November Revolution 1918/19 Mayworm was chairman of the local workers and soldiers council . At the beginning of the Weimar Republic , Mayworm was one of the driving forces behind the social democratic daily for the Sauerland Volkswacht . He was also a co-founder of the Reichsbanner Schwarz-Rot-Gold in Attendorn. He was also active in the free trade unions . From 1919 Mayworm was also city councilor and deputy city councilor chief.

From 1930 to 1943 Mayworm worked as a warehouse worker. In addition, he was sales manager of the social democratically oriented consumer association Plettenberg until it closed in 1935.

After the beginning of the National Socialist rule , Mayworm lost his mandate and was briefly arrested for "insulting the Reich Chancellor". From August to September 1933 he was imprisoned again for "insulting the SA and Stahlhelm ". In 1944 Mayworm was arrested again as part of the grating action .

In 1945 and 1947 he was again chairman of the SPD local association Attendorn. Mayworm was also an alderman in the immediate post-war period. In 1946 he became mayor, but lost the office to Robert Schmidt after the local elections on October 9, 1946.

Mayworm was a member of the Provincial Council for Westphalia in 1946 and a member of the appointed Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia in 1946 and 1947 .
