Herbert Falken
Herbert Falken (born September 11, 1932 in Aachen ) is a German draftsman , painter and printmaker as well as a Catholic priest of the diocese of Aachen .
Life
Herbert Falken passed his commercial assistant examination in 1953 before he made up his Abitur in 1958 at the evening grammar school. Until 1964 he studied philosophy and theology in Bonn and Aachen . After his ordination in 1964, he was chaplain at the Church of St. Peter in Uerdingen until 1968 and at St. Gregorius in Aachen from 1968 to 1977 , but was partially released in 1974 in order to be able to devote more time to his artistic work. From 1977 to 1989 he worked as a pastor in Schevenhütte .
As a self-taught painter, the first drawings were made in 1949, the first paintings in 1950. His first major exhibition took place in 1964 together with Benno Werth in the Suermondt Museum in Aachen. Participation in documenta VI 1977 made him known internationally. In 1988 he became the commissioner for art in the diocese of Aachen.
His works are represented in many important collections, including the Ludwig Forum Aachen, Suermondt-Ludwig-Museum Aachen, Kolumba Cologne, Museum Ludwig Cologne, the Collection of Art from North Rhine-Westphalia Kornelimünster, the State Gallery Stuttgart and the Museum am Dom in Würzburg.
Herbert Falken deals largely with human creatures, their conflict with themselves, disease, the world and with God. Recently, large-format abstract works have also been created. Falken is a member of the German Association of Artists .
Until recently, Falken lived in the Kreuzau district of Langenbroich near the former home of Heinrich Böll , with whom he was on friendly terms. Herbert Falken currently has his residence in Düren.
