Josef Prechtl

Josef Prechtl (* 20th August 1896 in Salzburg , Salzburg , † 3. March 1976 ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ).

Life

Josef Prechtl grew up in Salzburg, where he completed elementary , civil and commercial school. From 1911 to 1913 he enjoyed an apprenticeship as a businessman at the Stranz & Scio company in Salzburg. In 1915 Prechtl also had to serve as a soldier in the First World War , from which he returned to Austria in 1918.

At the end of the 1910s and the beginning of the 1920s, Prechtl lived briefly in Upper Austria , where he was the manager of a listed stock corporation in Braunau am Inn . In 1923 he returned to Salzburg, where he founded a grocery and retail store that same year. He managed this until his retirement in 1970. His professional career was only interrupted by his participation as a soldier in World War II , from 1939 to 1945.

In 1946 Prechtl was elected district chairman of the Economic Association for Salzburg. In the same year he was sworn in as a member of the municipal council , which he was to belong to until 1957. In the period from 1953 to 1957 Prechtl also acted as city councilor for the economy.

Due to his economic knowledge, he became chairman of the nutritional advisory council in the Salzburg state government in 1946. Until 1948, his policy was largely responsible for the survival of the Salzburg population, which was affected by the consequences of the war.

From November 1948 to December 1949 Prechtl also represented Salzburg as a member of the Federal Council in Vienna .
