Josef Reymund
Josef Reymund (born August 9, 1756 in Vienna ; † August 31, 1824 there ) was an Austrian builder and landscape architect .
Life
Josef Reymund comes from a family of builders. He was the eldest son of the well-known church builder Joseph Reymund (approx. 1721–1795) and his wife Juliana, née Gössinger. His younger brother Franz (1772–1849) later successfully practiced the same profession.
In 1777 Reymund took the master craftsman's examination, but did not receive a license because the number was limited and a new award was only possible after such a license became available. In 1783 he made the decision to take his friend Peter Mollner 's exam as a mason polisher . The implementation of this decision did not come about because Reymund received the concession as landscape and town architect in 1784.
In 1785 he married Rosalia Wasserburger, with whom he had a son (Karl) and a daughter (Theresia, married Hornung).
He worked for prominent clients such as the Schottenstift , the Esterházy family and members of cultural life and, as a private master builder, built several houses in the city center and what was then the suburbs of Vienna. His most important project is the Theater an der Wien , which he completed in just thirteen months together with Anton Jäger in June 1801. Several of his surviving structures are listed .
Reymund was in good contact with some of Vienna's most important architects, such as his witnesses Peter Mollner and Johann Michael Adelpodinger , and was a member of the “Outer Council”, which acted as a control body for the guilds and, as part of the city council, consisted of representatives from the guilds .
Josef Reymund died in Vienna at the age of 68.
