Josef Rint (born October 3, 1838 in Kuks , Bohemia ; † February 10, 1876 in Vienna ) was an Austrian sculptor and wood carver .

Life

Josef Rint learned wood carving from his father Johann Rint , who had lived in Linz since 1848. In 1850 he accompanied his father to Munich for his study visit. After returning to Linz, he and his father restored the Kefermarkt winged altar for three years from 1852 onwards . He then completed an apprenticeship in Munich and then worked in his father's workshop.

From 1858 to 1862 he was busy with the sculptural restoration of the Pacher Altar in St. Wolfgang in the Salzkammergut . At his instigation, Friedrich Kolbe and the painter and writer Carl von Binzer founded the “Association of Fine Artists (and Friends of Art) in Linz” in 1865 .

To commemorate the work of father and son Rint, the city of Linz named “Rintstrasse” in the Kleinmünchen district after them in 1954.
