Benno Ulm

Benno Ulm (born October 22, 1921 in Vienna , † December 7, 2000 in Linz ) was an Austrian historian .

Life

Benno Ulm, son of Benedikt Ulm and Ida Neumann, grew up in Mildenau in Bohemia and only came to Austria at the age of fourteen, when the family had to leave what was then Czechoslovakia and settle in Freistadt . In autumn 1947 he began studying art history, archeology and historical auxiliary sciences at the University of Vienna , where he received his doctorate in 1955. In the spring of 1957, Ulm started work at the Upper Austrian State Museum . He worked as an assistant to the director at the time, Wilhelm Jenny, and after his death on January 20, 1960, he was appointed head of the Art and Cultural History Department - a task that he fulfilled for a quarter of a century until he retired on January 31, 1985 . He is buried at the city cemetery in Linz- Urfahr .
