Josef Schick (born April 23, 1965 in Berchtesgaden ) is a former German ski racer . He was active in the 1980s and early 1990s, was sixth in the combined at the 1987 World Cup , achieved four top 10 placings in the World Cup , won the giant slalom in the European Cup and was twice German runner-up.
biography
Schick started at the Junior World Championships in Sestriere in 1983 and achieved 16th place in the downhill and 23rd place in the giant slalom. In the European Cup he won the giant slalom classification in the 1983/84 season and came second in the overall ranking behind the Austrian Dietmar Köhlbichler . The German won his first points in the World Cup on February 2, 1986 with ninth place in the Wengen slalom . Shortly afterwards he achieved two eighth places in the two Super-Gs of Crans-Montana and at the end of the 1985/86 season he achieved his best World Cup result with fourth place in the slalom of Bromont .
In the 1986/87 season Schick drove only once, as 14th of the giant slalom in Alta Badia , in the World Cup points. He took part in the 1987 World Championship in Crans-Montana and achieved sixth place in the combination behind Markus Wasmeier , who was fifth. In the slalom he was eliminated in the first round. After that winter, Schick did not win any more World Cup points, but achieved fourth place in the overall and giant slalom classification and fifth in the Super-G classification in the European Cup in the 1987/88 season . In 1989 he was German runner-up in Super-G and in 1991 German runner-up in slalom. After his active career, he became a trainer for the German Ski Association .
