Josef Schmidt (born February 11, 1934 in Waldböckelheim ) is a German politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

Attending elementary school in Waldböckelheim from 1940 to 1948 was followed by a vocational school and an apprenticeship as a carpenter in Bad Kreuznach . The journeyman's examination in 1952 was followed by attending the social seminar of the Diocese of Trier from 1955 to 1957 . He worked as a carpenter from 1953 to 1959.

Political party

Schmidt has been a member of the JU and CDU since 1956 . From 1959 to 1962 he was a member of the district board of the JU Koblenz. From 1959 to 1978 he was managing director of the CDU for the Bad Kreuznach district.

Public offices

Landtag Rhineland-Palatinate

Schmidt was elected to the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament for the first time in the 1971 state elections and was a member of it for two terms from May 18, 1971 to December 13, 1978. He resigned his mandate early in order to take up the position of first full-time alderman of the Bad Sobernheim community. His successor was Ernst Lautenbach . In the 7th electoral term he was a member of the Committee on Economics and Transport, the Petitions Committee and the Social Policy Committee. In the 8th electoral term, Schmidt was a member of the Committee on Social Affairs, Health and Sport, the Committee on Economics and Transport and the Petitions Committee.

In 1979 he was a member of the 7th Federal Assembly .

Communal functions

From 1960 to 1964 Schmidt was a member of the Waldböckelheim municipal council and then until 1969 first deputy in Waldböckelheim. In the local elections in 1964 and 1969 he was elected to the Bad Kreuznach district council, where he was parliamentary group leader of the CDU from 1969 to 1974 .

From 1969 to 1978 he was a member of the CDU parliamentary group in the local council in Rüdesheim . From 1971 to 1974 he was second alderman of the community of Rüdesheim and in 1974 first district deputy of the Bad Kreuznach district .

After leaving the Landtag, he was the first full-time alderman of the Bad Sobernheim community from 1978 to 1983 . He was then mayor of the Langenlonsheim community until 1991 . From 1991 to 1997 Schmidt was the first full-time district member of the Bad Kreuznach district.

Other engagement

Schmidt has been a member of the CGB since 1959 and of the DGB in 1968 . From 1961 to 1978 he was a member of the board of the AOK Bad Kreuznach and from 1975 to 1994 a member of the state board of the German Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband Rheinland-Pfalz-Saarland.
