Josef Vaniš
Josef Vaniš (born January 6, 1927 in Vysoký Chlumec , Czechoslovakia ; † February 12, 2009 in Prague , Czech Republic) was a Czech cameraman and photographer who was still in his homeland from the 1950s until after the political change was active in the 1990s.
Life
Vaniš worked as a camera assistant from 1942 to 1946 and finished his apprenticeship in film and photography at the graphic school in Prague. In the years up to 1957 he was a freelance cameraman and worked on documentaries and short films. He was first known for his work on the documentary Cesta vede do Tibetu and the book The Road to Lhasa , which was produced at the same time . The documentary took part in the 1958 Venice Film Festival. He then started working as a cameraman in the Czechoslovak film industry. His pictures from Tibet have been exhibited both in his home country and abroad from 1956 to the present day.
Vaniš worked as a permanent employee in the Barrandov film studios in Prague . He worked with Karel Kachyňa on the films Závrať (1963; German: vertigo) and Vysoká zeď (1964; Afternoon in the Park). He worked behind the camera in several films for Dušan Klein . This also included three pentalogy films about the poets . He also worked with Zbyněk Brynych , for example in 1970 on Oh, Happy Day and Angels Burning Their Wings . In the 1970s he was in the films Leť ptáku, leť German: Flieg, Vogel, flieg! (1978) , director: J.Hanibal and seven parts of the TV series Pan Tau by director Jindřich Polák . In 1976 he worked with Jaroslav Balik in the film Jeden střibrený (One Silver Piece) and in 1977 he directed the camera in Tychý američan v Praze (German: A Silent American in Prague), directed by Josef Mach .
After the political change in 1989, Vaniš worked as a freelance cameraman for another five years. In 1993 he directed the camera for the film The End of the Poets in Bohemia (Konec básníků v Čechách).
Josef Vaniš was a member of the Czech Cameramen Association and a lecturer in film and television at the Film and Television Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts , Prague.
