Josef Wirtz (* 11. April 1950 in Schophoven ) is a German politician of the CDU . He was a member of the state parliament in North Rhine-Westphalia from June 8, 2005 to May 31, 2017 .

biography

Wirtz was also born in Schophoven, where he lived for many years. After graduating from primary school, he did an agricultural apprenticeship from 1964 to 1968 . From 1968 to 1970 he attended the agricultural college, then the master craftsman course in Kempen . The agricultural master had been working as a self-employed farmer since 1971 , but ceased dairy farming in 1990. He then worked in the Jülich sugar factory and in a machine ring. In 2013 he finally ceased active operations on his farm, which had been family-owned for 116 years.

Political career

Wirtz has been a CDU member since 1972. From 1974 to 1990 he was deputy chairman of the Inden municipal association . From 1975 he was an assessor on the district board of the Junge Union for 10 years . In addition to many other offices, he was also a council member in his home community Inden from 1975.

Wirtz was first elected to the state parliament in 2005 in the constituency of Düren I with 50.0% of the vote. Also on May 9, 2010, he was elected there with 44.02%. The constituency of Düren I includes the communities Aldenhoven , Inden , Jülich , Langerwehe , Linnich , Merzenich , Niederzier , Nörvenich , Titz and Vettweiß .

In his first term of office, he was a full member of the committee for “Nature and the Environment, Agriculture and Consumer Protection” and the Petitions Committee. He was a deputy member of the committee for “Economy, medium-sized companies and energy, including spatial planning and mine safety”.

Since 2010 he has been a full member of the Committee on Economy, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises and Energy as well as of the Mining Safety Subcommittee. In the Mining Safety Subcommittee, he is also the spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group. He is a representative of the Committee for Building, Housing and Transport, the Committee for Schools and Further Education and the Committee for Climate Protection, Environment, Nature Conservation, Agriculture and Consumer Protection.

In the state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2012 , Wirtz was elected to the 16th state parliament in North Rhine-Westphalia via the reserve list in the Düren I state constituency. He just lost his direct mandate to Peter Münstermann . Wirtz declared on February 11, 2016 that he would not stand for another state parliament candidacy in 2017.

Wirtz was a member of the 15th Federal Assembly .

Private

Wirtz is married and has two children. He now lives in Jülich.
