Joseph Rummel

Joseph Francis Rummel (* as Franz Joseph Rummel on October 14, 1876 in Steinmauern / Baden ; † November 8, 1964 in New Orleans ) was Archbishop of New Orleans .

Life

Joseph Rummel emigrated to the United States with his parents in 1883. After studying theology in Rome he received on 24 May 1902 in the Lateran Basilica , the ordination of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York , USA, and celebrated his first Mass in the church of St. Martin in Ettlingen .

On March 30, 1928, Pope Pius XI appointed him . to the Bishop of Omaha in Nebraska. He received his episcopal ordination on May 29, 1928, the Archbishop of New York, Patrick Joseph Cardinal Hayes ; Co- consecrators were Thomas Edmund Molloy , Bishop of Brooklyn , and John Joseph Dunn , Auxiliary Bishop in New York. The inauguration in the Diocese of Omaha took place on July 4th of the same year.

On March 9, 1935, Pope Pius XI appointed him. to the Archbishop of New Orleans. Rummel took part in the first session of the Second Vatican Council as a council father. He died in the episcopate.

Rummel was a member of the Columbus Knights (Council No. 5747).
