Joseph Georg Mansfeld
Joseph Georg Mansfeld , also Johann Georg Mannsfeld (born March 18, 1764 in Vienna , parish Maria Treu; † December 21, 1817 there ), was an Austrian engraver , lithographer and painter.
Life
Joseph Georg Mansfeld was a son of Johann Ernst Mansfeld (1739–1796), who came from a family of engravers based in Prague and gave him his first lessons in this art. Mansfeld later attended the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna . He ran a type foundry that financed his living. From sheet music it can be proven that he had knowledge of the lithographic technique in 1802 . In 1811 he made lithographs based on models by Johann Adam Klein , with whom he was friends. In 1815 Mansfeld founded the "kk Lythographische Bureau" in Vienna, for which Klein worked, among others, and worked as an kk cabinet engraver. In addition to his own etchings, engravings and watercolors, he illustrated numerous almanacs and paperbacks.
His grandson Josef Mansfeld (1819–1894) was a painter who also worked in Vienna.
