Joseph Ignaz Weiss

Joseph Ignaz Weiss (* 1722 in Altusried ; † after 1792 ) was a southern German painter of the Baroque , who became known primarily for his work in Switzerland.

The painter, who comes from the Allgäu , worked for the Einsiedeln monastery from 1752 to 1753 .

The Baroque furnishings of the collegiate church in the Canons' Monastery of St. Michael Beromünster are considered to be the main work of Joseph Ignaz Weiss . From 1771 to 1775 he created the holy grave , a ceiling painting and a choir altar picture there on behalf of the canons.

Works by Joseph Ignaz Weiss can be found in Einsiedeln and Beromünster as well as in Eschenbach SG (ceiling painting of St. Laurentius Church in St. Gallenkappel , 1755), Silenen (ceiling painting of the parish church of St. Albin, 1786), Flüelen , Hochdorf (parish church of St. Martin, 1758), Buttisholz , Seewen SZ , Morschach , Ingenbohl (the three large ceiling paintings in the parish church of St. Leonhard) as well as in the Gormund chapel and in the Mooskapelle near Beromünster.
