Joseph Karl Ambrosch
Joseph Karl Ambrosch , Czech Josef Karel Ambrož , (born May 6, 1759 in Krumau , † September 8, 1822 in Berlin ) was a Bohemian opera singer ( tenor ) and composer .
Life
The student of Jan Antonín Koželuh lived as an opera tenor in Berlin since 1791 . Since 1792 he has been part of the ensemble of the Berlin Royal National Theater , which August Wilhelm Iffland has led since 1796. Ambrosch appeared in plays as well as in operas and singing plays. One of his most successful roles was that of the landlord Weller in Ferdinando Paer's The Merry Shoemaker, or: The Metamorphosed Women. A comical Singspiel in two acts . (First performance on May 25, 1807). In Mozart's Die Zauberflöte he sang Papageno over 21 times between 1806 and 1812. In acting he mostly played minor supporting roles. In Julius von Voss ' comedy by artist Erdenwallen (premiered on January 29, 1810), he played the role of a Jew.
Together with the singer and actor Joseph Michael Böheim , he published the three-part collection Freymäurer Lieder , which contained works by numerous contemporary composers, including a large part of the songs he composed himself . Both were members of the Berlin Freemason Lodge on Resistance .
His son Julius Ambrosch (1804-1856) was from 1834 professor of classical archeology at the University of Breslau.
