Joseph Kleiner
Georg Sigismund Joseph Kleiner (born June 16, 1725 in Bischofsheim ad Tauber , † May 14, 1786 in Heidelberg ) was a German Jesuit , theologian and canon lawyer .
Life
Kleiner was the son of the businessman Johannes Heinrich Kleiner. His brother was the Kurmainzer Hofkammerrat Johannes Philipp Anton Kleiner. Joseph Kleiner began his philosophical studies at the University of Würzburg before 1743 . On July 14, 1743 he joined the Jesuit Order . At the University of Würzburg he passed the philosophical master’s examination . On December 14, 1751, he was enrolled as a student of canon law at Heidelberg University . On September 6, 1755, the doctorate to Dr. iur. can. Presumably in Heidelberg he began studying theology.
In 1758 Kleiner appeared as a lecturer in philosophy in Mainz, and in 1760 he returned to the University of Würzburg . There he obtained a bachelor's degree in theology in May / June 1763 , after which he was awarded a Dr. theol. received his doctorate. When he moved to Würzburg in 1760, he is said to have taught philosophy at the university. From 1762 and 1763 he finally appeared as a lecturer or professor of moral theology at the University of Würzburg.
In October 1763, Kleiner was appointed second professor of theology at the Catholic Department of the Theological Faculty of Heidelberg University . In the year of his rectorate at the university, 1780, he changed on March 16 to the first professorship of theology in the Catholic department of the faculty. In 1766, 1769, 1772, 1775 and 1780 he was also dean of his faculty.
Kleiner bequeathed his library to the University of Heidelberg.
