Joseph Lawson Howze

Joseph Lawson Howze (born August 30, 1923 in Daphne , Alabama - † January 9, 2019 in Ocean Springs , Mississippi ) was an American clergyman of the Roman Catholic Church and Bishop of Biloxi .

Life

Joseph Lawson Howze was ordained a priest on May 7, 1959 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on November 8, 1972 auxiliary bishop in Natchez-Jackson and titular bishop of Maxita . The Apostolic Delegate to the United States of America, Archbishop Luigi Raimondi , donated him episcopal ordination on January 28, 1973 ; Co- consecrators were Harold Robert Perry SVD , Auxiliary Bishop of New Orleans , and Joseph Bernard Brunini , Bishop of Natchez-Jackson .

On March 8, 1977 he was by Paul VI. appointed first bishop of the diocese of Biloxi established a week earlier . The inauguration took place on June 6th of the same year.

On May 15, 2001, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
