Andrea Veggio (born August 28, 1923 in Manerba del Garda ; † June 6, 2020 in Negrar ) was an Italian clergyman and Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop in Verona .

Life

Andrea Veggio received after his theological training on 29 June 1947 Bishop Girolamo Cardinale , the ordination . He initially worked in pastoral care in Dossobuono and then for a year assistant to the episcopal college. In 1951 he was active in the advanced seminar, first as vice rector for three years, then as spiritual director of the Roverè seminar (1954–56) and again as vice rector of the advanced seminar (1956–59). For a period of five years from 1959 to 1964 he was archpriest-abbot of Isola della Scala. In 1962 he was made an Honorary Canon of the Chapter of the Cathedral and received the title of Monsignor .

He later returned to Verona and was rector of the Episcopal Seminary and the Diocesan Institutes for Church Education (1964–72). In 1972, Bishop Giuseppe Carraro appointed him vicar general .

Pope John Paul II appointed him on August 1, 1983 auxiliary bishop in Verona and titular bishop of Velia . The Bishop of Verona Giuseppe Amari donated him episcopal ordination on September 8th of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Andrea Pangrazio , Archbishop ad personam of Porto e Santa Rufina , and Maffeo Giovanni Ducoli , Auxiliary Bishop in Verona. From September 1997 to October 1998 he was the apostolic administrator of the diocese.

On September 8, 2001, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation, although he was still in office as Vicar General for a few months. He died at the age of 96 due to age-related health in the Negrar clergy house, where he had lived since 2016.
