Luigi Raimondi

Luigi Cardinal Raimondi (born October 25, 1912 in Acqui , Alessandria Province , Italy , † June 24, 1975 in Vatican City ) was a diplomat of the Holy See and later a cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Luigi Raimondi studied in Rome trays Catholic theology and philosophy and received on 6 June 1936, the sacrament of the priesthood for the Diocese of Acqui . After further studies, he became secretary of the Apostolic Nunciature in Guatemala in 1938 . From 1942 to 1949 he was a member of the Apostolic Delegation in the USA , and from 1949 to 1953 he worked as a counselor for the international community in India .

On December 24, 1953, Pope Pius XII appointed him . as Titular Archbishop of Tarsus and Apostolic Nuncio in Haiti and as Apostolic Delegate for the West Indies . The episcopal ordination received his Adeodato Giovanni Piazza Cardinal OCD , secretary of the Congregation for Bishops and Cardinal Bishop of Sabina on 31 January 1954 Co- consecrators were Archbishop Antonio Samoré , Secretary of the Congregation for Extraordinary Duties of the Church, and the Bishop of Acqui , Giuseppe Dell'Omo .

In 1957 he became an Apostolic Delegate in Mexico . From 1962 to 1965 he took part in the Second Vatican Council . In 1967 Pope Paul VI appointed him . as Apostolic Envoy for the USA . On March 5, 1973 he accepted him as a cardinal deacon with the title diakonia Santi Biagio e Carlo ai Catinari in the college of cardinals and on March 21 of the same year appointed him cardinal prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of the Saints .

Cardinal Luigi Raimondi died in the Vatican on June 24, 1975 and was buried in his family's crypt in Acqui Terme .
