Antonio Cardinal Samorè (born December 4, 1905 in Bardi , Province of Parma , Italy , † February 3, 1983 in Rome ) was a Vatican diplomat and later Curia Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Antonio Samorè studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the seminary in Piacenza and the Lateran University in Rome. On June 10, 1928, he received the sacrament of ordination and was then installed as a parish pastor in the diocese of Piacenza . In 1932 he entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See and initially worked as an attaché and secretary at the Apostolic Nunciature in Lithuania . In 1938 he became secretary of the Nunciature in Switzerland . From 1938 to 1947 he was a member of the staff of the Vatican State Secretariat . From 1947 to 1950 he worked as an advisor to the Apostolic Delegation in the USA .

In 1948 he was together with Joaquín García Benítez , the Archbishop of Medellin, founder of the Colombian Lieutenancy of the Knightly Order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .

In 1950 Pope Pius XII appointed him . the Titular Archbishop of Ternobus and sent him as apostolic nuncio to Colombia . He was ordained bishop on April 16, 1950 by Clemente Cardinal Micara , Bishop of Velletri and Cardinal Vicar for Rome; Co- consecrators were Filippo Bernardini , Apostolic Nuncio in Switzerland, and Alberto Carinci , Bishop of Boiano-Campobasso . 1953 called Pius XII. him secretary of the Congregation for Extraordinary Duties of the Church. On June 29, 1967, Pope Paul VI. Antonio Samorè with the titular church Santa Maria sopra Minerva in the college of cardinals and appointed him a year later prefect of the Congregation for the order of the sacraments . He carried out this task until 1974. In the following years he worked as a librarian and archivist for the Holy Roman Church.

Between 1978 and 1983 he took part as papal special envoy in the papal mediation in the Beagle conflict between Chile and Argentina . One of the main road passes in the southern Andes , the Paso Puyehue (Chilean) or El Rincón (Argentine), was renamed by both states in recognition of his services to Paso Fronterizo Cardenal Samoré .

Antonio Samorè died on February 3, 1983 in Rome and was buried in the church of the Carmelite monastery of Vetralla .
