Giuseppe Petrelli

Giuseppe Petrelli (born February 14, 1873 in Montegiorgio , Province of Fermo , Italy , † April 29, 1962 ) was a Vatican diplomat and first bishop of Lipa .

Life

Petrelli was ordained a priest on August 10, 1896 .

Pope Pius X appointed him on April 12, 1910, bishop of the newly established Lipa diocese in the Philippines . He was ordained bishop on June 12th of the same year by Ambrogio Agius , Apostolic Delegate in the Philippines. Co- consecrators were the future Cardinal Denis Joseph Dougherty , then Bishop of Jaro , and Juan Bautista Gorordo , Bishop of Cebu . Petrelli revitalized the work of the diocese and among other things appointed new missionaries.

On May 30, 1915, Benedict XV appointed him . Titular Archbishop of Nisibis and Apostolic Delegate of the Philippines after his predecessor Ambrogio Agius had died in 1911. On May 27, 1921 Benedict XV appointed him. finally to the nuncio in Peru . He held this post until his resignation on December 24, 1926. Giuseppe Petrelli then retired before he died in 1962.
