Joseph Zingg (born October 4, 1863 in Lucerne ; † November 1, 1953 in Meggen LU , authorized to reside in Lucerne and Meggen LU) was a Swiss railway manager .

Life

Family and education

The Catholic baptized, born in Lucerne Joseph Zingg, son of politician Joseph Zingg senior and Aloysia, née Kopp, completed after the acquisition of the Swiss Matura , a study of law . Joseph Zingg married Josefa Maria, daughter of Jakob Blankart, in 1889. He died at the beginning of November 1953 just after he had turned 90.

Professional background

Joseph Zingg joined the Gotthard Railway after graduating . Initially, Joseph Zingg was employed as the station director in Lugano , later he was appointed secretary to the management and board of the legal office of the Gotthard Railway, and in 1908 he was appointed director of the Gotthard Railway. After the Gotthard Railway was repurchased by the federal government in 1909, Joseph Zingg was given the position of SBB District Director of District V. In 1912 he was elected a member of the SBB General Management and Head of the Operations Department. Zingg, who held the rank of colonel in the Swiss army , was employed as a military railroad director during the First World War . In 1922 Zingg took over the positions of President of the General Management and Head of the Finance and Personnel Department, and in 1926 he was ceremoniously retired.

Joseph Zingg earned a national reputation as an amateur butterfly researcher . He put together a large collection that is kept in the Lucerne Nature Museum .
