Life

Joseph (Anton) von Aichen came from a noble family that was originally based in the Grafschaft Mark in the Lower Rhine-Westphalian Empire , and moved to Austria in the 17th century. His father was Anton Augustin Ritter von Aichen, Raitmarschall and a decree of the Lower Austrian knighthood. Joseph was hired as secretary to the court marshal in 1767 and was promoted to council of the marshal in 1770. In the following year he was appointed as judicial commissioner in the county of Falkenstein . He was appointed administrator in 1773, but returned the following year to take up his position as court marshal. Aichen was sent to the Council of Appeal in 1782; he held this position until 1814, when he was both higher regional judge and privy councilor . In 1816 he was ennobled as a baron , henceforth Joseph Baron von Aichen. Later von Aichen also acted as the provisional president of the court commission, after a permanent president was found, only as his deputy. Von Aichen died on October 25, 1818 at the age of 73 in Vienna.

Von Aichen had participated in many legal discussions and was particularly committed to the poor; so he had also been director of the poor district.

In 1777 Joseph married Maria Anna Catto (Cetto) von Kronstorf, daughter of Karl Joseph Catto von Kronstorf and Maria Anna Hayek von Waldstätten . His son Franz Xaver Freiherr von Aichen was also a lawyer (most recently Lower Austrian sub-marshal ).
