Josip "Škija" Katalinski (born May 2, 1948 in Sarajevo , Yugoslavia , † June 9, 2011 in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina ) was a Yugoslav football player .

Athletic career

Katalinski began playing football at FK Igman Ilidža , where he was discovered as a youth by those in charge of FK Željezničar Sarajevo . A year after his move, he made his debut in 1965 in the club's competitive team, for which the dangerous defender played for ten years. The greatest successes he achieved with the team under coach Milan Ribar at the beginning of the 1970s, when she 1971 runner-up behind Hajduk Split was the following year took the only Yugoslav league title in club history and also in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Cup 1971/72 until Penalty shoot-out at the Hungarian representative Ferencváros Budapest failed.

As a result, Katalinski became a national player. In the same year he was named Yugoslavia's Footballer of the Year .

After reaching the age limit for players from the Eastern Bloc, Katalinski was allowed to move to western countries in 1975 and joined the French club OGC Nice . At the same time he continued to be a national player, at the 1976 European Championship he played the two (lost) finals. In 1977 he resigned as a selection player after 41 international matches in which he had scored ten goals, and a year later he ended his professional career after three seasons in Division 1 due to injury .
