Josip Roglić

Josip Roglić (born March 14, 1906 in Župa Biokovska near Zagvozd , Austria-Hungary ; † October 18, 1987 in Zagreb , Yugoslavia ) was a Yugoslav geomorphologist , marine scientist , transport and regional scientist , member of the Leopoldina and the Yugoslav Academy of Sciences and Arts . His most famous works are contributions to karstology : from the typification and distribution of karst types to karst quaternary geology and the vegetation in the karst . He also founded the Croatian Speleological Society.

Roglic was at the geographical and geological faculty of the 1934 University of Belgrade PhD . He further qualified in France , Germany and Austria . From 1946 until his retirement in 1976, he taught at the science and mathematics faculty of the University of Zagreb as a full professor and as a visiting professor in France, the United Kingdom , Austria, Poland and the USA . He also received an honorary doctorate from the University of Dijon . Roglić wrote for the Encyclopedia of Yugoslavia and the Marine Encyclopedia of the Yugoslav Lexicographical Institute . He has written numerous karstological, geological and geomorphological publications.
