Zagvozd is a municipality in Croatia and is located in the Split-Dalmatia County . According to the 2011 census, the municipality has 1,188 inhabitants.

location

Zagvozd is located 19 km southwest of Imotski . It lies between the Biokovo Mountains and the Imotski Field ( Imotsko polje ).

Culture

The place has several churches and chapels:

  • Gospa od Karmela (1963)
  • Svi sveti (17th century; renovated in 1973)
  • sv. Marija (17th century)
  • sv. Stjepan (19th century)
  • Sveti križ (17th century)

There are numerous archaeological sites in the area: Stećci , old tombstones ( Zaranč-ploča from 1645 and others).

History

During the Široki Brijeg massacre (1945), friars were transported to Split . The majority of them were most likely killed in Zagvozd.
