geography

history
In the past the village was a fishing, farming and trading place, today the village is a tourist place with pine forests and beaches. Baška Voda is first mentioned in 1688 on the Coranelli map under Basca . An earlier settlement is likely due to the archaeological finds that go back to the Bronze Age.
The place arose from a small village that was around a source of drinking water. The inhabitants of the St. Ilija ridge in the Biokovo Mountains moved to Bast in the 18th century after the Turks were driven out. Bast is a settlement in the Baška Voda municipality.
Surname
The name Baška-Voda probably comes from Biston , the mythical forefather of the Trakish tribes of the Bistons. He was considered the son of Ares and the goddess Kalyroja , the protector of water. Symbols of these deities can be found in the vicinity of the place.
