Milna is a municipality in Split-Dalmatia County , Croatia . The port town is located on the bay of the same name on the west coast of the island of Brač , 20 km southwest of Supetar . The municipality has 1,034 inhabitants, while Milna has 830 inhabitants (2011 census). The town is surrounded by picturesque bays such as Lučice or Duboka.

history

The place developed at the beginning of the 18th century. Dominant is the parish church of the Annunciation from 1783 with a monumental baroque facade and a striking church tower . Another seven church buildings are spread across the city.

In Osibova Bay there are ruins of a small Gothic church. During the Napoleonic Wars , the Russian fleet was based in Milna in 1800. The Russian tsar also had a residence here .

Noteworthy pieces of equipment are the stucco cycle ( late baroque ) from the early 19th century and the late baroque altar painting Annunciation , a work by Sebastian Ricci . In addition to the sculptures of St. Joseph and St. Jerome in the parish church, the grave monument of Stjepan Tomas with its secessionist - folk motifs comes from the 19th century.

Culture

The Milna Bay with a wide outer part and the small, shallow inner part houses one of the ports on the island of Brač. There are several restaurants, cafes and taverns along this beach promenade . There are several bays with sandy and pebble beaches in the vicinity. There are also places for five-a-side football, basketball , volleyball and boccia, as well as table tennis tables. The Marina ACI Milna , the only marina on the island of Brac, has 200 berths in the sea and 20 on land.

traffic

The main connection to the rest of the Croatian parts of the country is a regular ferry to Split . Most of the residents also have their own boats.
