Jozef Floribert Cornelis
Jozef Floribert Cornelis OSB (born October 6, 1910 in Ghent , † December 20, 2001 in Bruges ) was a Roman Catholic religious , archbishop ad personam and bishop of the Brazilian diocese of Alagoinhas .
Life
Jozef Floribert Cornelis joined the Benedictine Order and was ordained a priest on July 28, 1935 .
Pope John XXIII appointed him on November 27, 1958 Vicar Apostolic of Katanga and Titular Bishop of Tunes . The Pope personally donated him episcopal ordination on December 27 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Girolamo Bartolomeo Bortignon OFMCap , Bishop of Padua , and Gioacchino Muccin , Bishop of Belluno-Feltre .
Pope John XXIII elevated the Apostolic Vicariate Katanga on November 10, 1959 to the Archdiocese of Lubumbashi and appointed Cornelis its first Archbishop. He attended all the sessions of the Second Vatican Council .
On April 13, 1967, Pope Paul VI. resigned from office and appointed him titular archbishop pro hac vice of Capra . Pope Paul VI appointed him on November 13, 1974 Bishop of Alagoinhas while retaining the personal title of Archbishop. On May 24, 1986, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
