Juan José Caicedo (born July 27, 1992 ) is an Ecuadorian athlete who specializes in discus throwing, but occasionally also competes in the shot put .

Athletic career

Juan Caicedo gained his first international experience in 2010 when he was eliminated from the qualification at the Junior World Championships in Moncton, Canada with a width of 48.69 m. The following year he finished seventh in the shot put at the Junior South American Championships in Medellín with 15.36 m and fifth in the discus competition with 52.49 m. In 2012 he was fifth in the shot put at the U23 South American Championships in São Paulo with 12.96 m and finished fourth with the discus with a throw of 50.81 m. In the following year he took part for the first time in the South American Championships in Cartagena and reached eighth place with 15.88 m and 51.96 m respectively. Then he was at the Juegos Bolivarianos in Trujillo with 53.73 m fourth in the discus competition and reached sixth in the shot put with 15.82 m. In 2014 he finished eighth at the Ibero-American Championships in São Paulo with 54.55 m and then won the bronze medal in the shot put at the U23 South American Championships in Montevideo with 16.17 m and reached the discus competition with 53.97 m fourth.

In 2015 he again took part in the South American Championships in Lima , where he won the bronze medal behind the Colombian Mauricio Ortega and Ronald Julião from Brazil with a width of 54.88 m . Two years later he won the Juegos Bolivarianos in Santa Marta with a throw of 57.99 m. In 2018 he won the silver medal at the South American Games in Cochabamba with 57.37 m and only had to admit defeat to the Colombian Ortega, as well as at the subsequent Ibero-American Championships in Trujillo, where he promoted the discus to 58.68 m. The following year he was fifth at the South American Championships in Lima with 52.89 m and then took part in the Pan American Games there for the first time and finished sixth there with 57.81 m. In July 2020 he improved the national record in Lovelhe to 69.60 m and would have set a new South American record, but the Colombian Ortega threw a little further in the same competition.

In 2010 and 2013 Caicedo was the Ecuadorian champion in discus throw.
