The U23 South American  Athletics  Championships  are  athletics  competitions organized by the South American continental association Confederación Sudamericana de Atletismo  (CONSUDATLE) every two years . The first championships were held in 2004 in the Venezuelan Barquisimeto  , making South America the second continent after Europe to hold athletics competitions in the U23 area. The 2006 and 2010 events took place in the course of the respective South American  Games. By far the most successful nation is Brazil, followed by Colombia and Argentina.
