occupation

Project Genesis , also known as Project Genesis: Crossclub 2 and Crossclub II - Project Genesis , is a German independent film by Jochen Taubert and Oliver Krekel from 2010. It is based on a trailer produced by Krekel in 2002 for a sequel to his debut film Crossclub - The Legend of the Living Dead .

action

The film begins, similar to the Grindhouse films , with a fake trailer for the Turbo Zombi - Tampons of the Dead, which was not yet completed at the time . A summary of the first part follows. This is followed by the trailer for Crossclub 2 : In space, a research ship is attacked by hostile powers and flees to earth. Once there, it is faced with a zombie invasion. The three crew members are killed within a very short time.

The earth has meanwhile been divided into two zones. In the so-called death zone, a leader rules with an iron hand over a master of subordinates. Megalomaniac, he wants to marry the two women Tanja and Luna in a double ceremony. When they refuse, they are made compliant with an elixir. But Tanja receives a call from her father Andy, who was attacked by a zombie while on patrol. She decides to betray her leader and breaks free. Then she wants to make her way to the Reichenviertel with her friend. But the Fiihrer's henchmen and the zombies are on their heels.

After a few fights they confront the leader who tries to subordinate himself to zombies and so attack the rich zone. They are initially captured but are able to free themselves with the help of Padre Vitali. Before the ruler is killed by the two women, he gives the order to release a deadly virus. The two women and the renegade retainer reach the base and try to stop the catastrophe. But too late ... Padre Vitali is being torn to pieces.

Padre Vitali is led away and immobilized by a team of doctors. His mother is told by the chief doctor that her son is suffering from a psychotic attack, during which he would fantasize about a zombie apocalypse.

background

In 2002 Oliver Krekel shot a 10 minute long teaser for a planned sequel to his debut work Crossclub - The Legend of the Living Dead (1999). He engaged Sibylle Rauch , who also played in the first part, and Kai Havaii ( Extrabreit ). The trailer was planned to find sponsors for the film, which was estimated at around 1 to 2 million in costs. The trailer was filmed on the set of Enemy Mine in the Babelsberg film studios and on an old industrial site in Hamburg. Karl Dall should take on a guest role. Ultimately, however, the film did not materialize.

10 years later, Jochen Taubert took on the film material. Everything after the teaser material at the time and the flashbacks to the first part have little to do with the originally planned film. Taubert was able to win Krekel as an actor and hired other actors from the independent sector such as Thomas Kercmar , Marc Rohnstock , Andreas Pape and Erich Amerkamp . The rest of the shoot was realized by the Stadtlohn film team.

publication

The film was released on DVD in 2011 via Astro Records & Filmworks in three different editions. In 2012 it was released on the '84 Entertainment label.

Reviews

The film is, apart from the passages shot by Krekel, a typical Trash film by Taubert and was accordingly received that way in the scene. This is how Haiko Herden wrote of Haiko's film dictionary:

“What else can you write about this typical Taubert work? Everything that is worth seeing in the film in any way, he did not shoot. Apart from the technically good implementation in terms of editing and image design, you get late-pubescent faecal jokes and moderate splatter effects , plus a few pretty naked female facts and cheap rubber masks from the Halloween shop. (...) In fact, the best thing about 'Project Genesis - Cross Club 2' is that the film only runs for just under 70 minutes and, unlike many other Taubert films, it doesn't annoy well over 90 minutes. However, if you consider the great (surely exaggerated) vision Oliver Krekel once had of this film, the end result is more than poor and clearly shows that the Astro boss had long since left this project emotionally.
