Juan Fremiot Torres Oliver

Juan Fremiot Torres Oliver (born October 28, 1925 in San Germán , † January 26, 2012 in Ponce ) was a Puerto Rican clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Ponce .

Life

Juan Fremiot Torres Oliver was ordained a priest for the diocese of Ponce on April 10, 1950 . He was a professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico (Pontificia Universidad Católica de Puerto Rico) as well as Chancellor, founding dean and namesake of the law faculty.

Pope Paul VI appointed him Bishop of Ponce on November 4, 1964. The Archbishop of New York Francis Joseph Cardinal Spellman donated him episcopal ordination on December 21 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Luis Aponte Martínez , Archbishop of San Juan de Puerto Rico , and Alfredo José Isaac Cecilio Francesco Méndez-Gonzalez CSC , Bishop of Arecibo .

He was a participant in the last session of the Second Vatican Council . From 1983 to 1994 he was President of the Conferencia Episcopal Puertorriqueña .

On November 10, 2000, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
