The Diocese of Arecibo ( lat. : Dioecesis Arecibensis ) is in Puerto Rico situated Roman Catholic diocese , based in Arecibo . It covers the north-central part of the island.

history

Pope John XXIII founded on April 30, 1960 the diocese with the apostolic constitution Cum apostolicus from cessions of territory of the diocese of Ponce and the archdiocese of San Juan de Puerto Rico , to which it was also subordinated as a suffragan .

On March 1, 1976 it lost part of the territory to the Diocese of Mayagüez .
