The Diocese of Ponce ( lat. : Dioecesis Poncensis ) is in Puerto Rico situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Ponce .

history

The diocese of Ponce was founded on November 21, 1924 by Pope Pius XI. established with the Apostolic Constitution Ad Sacrosancti Apostolatus Officium from cessions of territory of the diocese of San Juan de Puerto Rico . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of San Juan de Puerto Rico as a suffragan . On April 30, 1960, the Diocese of Ponce gave up parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Arecibo . The diocese of Ponce gave on November 4, 1964 parts of its territory to establish the diocese of Caguas . Another assignment of territory took place on March 1, 1976 to establish the diocese Mayagüez .
