Gerhard Ritzel

Gerhard Ritzel (born April 12, 1923 in Michelstadt ; † January 2000 ) was a German diplomat .

Life

Ritzel was a son of the Reichstag and later member of the Bundestag Heinrich Ritzel ( SPD ). After Adolf Hitler came to power in 1933, the Ritzel family emigrated to Switzerland . After a period of statelessness, it was naturalized (naturalized). Gerhard pinion studied 1942-1948 jurisprudence , political science and philosophy in Basel , Geneva , Zurich and Heidelberg and in 1948 at the University of Basel to the Dr. rer. pol is doing his PhD . From 1948 to 1949 he was acting head of economic and social welfare for the Swiss European Union in Basel and then worked in the private sector in Switzerland.

At the end of 1951, Ritzel joined the German Foreign Service at the Foreign Office . 1952–1953 he was at the Consulate General in Bombay , 1953–1955 at the Colombo Legation , 1955–1956 at the Consulate General New York , 1957–1960 at the Consulate General Los Angeles , 1960–1965 in the Foreign Office in Bonn , there 1960–1962 in the department 3 (West II) Consultant in Section 305 ( USA , Canada ), 1963–1965 Consultant in the Planning Staff (Pl), 1965–1966 at the Embassy in Luxembourg , 1966–1969 again at the headquarters, there 1966–1967 to the Federal Minister or directly subordinate to the State Secretaries , Head of Section L 1 (Parliament and Cabinet Section) and 1968–1969 Head of the Ministerial Office under Willy Brandt . When Brandt became Federal Chancellor after the Bundestag election in 1969 , Ritzel became head of the Chancellor's office and personal assistant to the Federal Chancellor in the Federal Chancellery .

Ritzel returned to the Foreign Service, was German Ambassador in Oslo from 1971 to 1974, Ambassador to Prague from 1974 to 1977 and Ambassador to Iran from 1977 to 1981, during the Iranian Revolution .

1981 to 1983 was pinion Secretary and Head of Department 6 in the Chancellor's Office and coordinator of the intelligence services of the Federation ( Federal Intelligence Service (BND), Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BFV) and Military Counterintelligence Service (MAD)).

Under Helmut Kohl's chancellorship , Ritzel returned to the Federal Foreign Office and was ambassador to Stockholm ( Sweden ) from 1983 to 1988 .
