Juan Fusé

Juan Fusé (born February 21, 1905 ; † unknown) was an Argentine athlete who won two gold, three silver and two bronze medals in hammer throw at the South American Championships .

The 1.77 meter tall Fusé took fifth place at the South American Championships in 1931 with 42.38 meters, but was only the third-best Argentine in this competition behind Federico Kleger and Alfredo Wismer . In 1933 he won bronze with 45.00 meters behind Kleger and the Chilean Antonio Barticevic . In this competition, Kleger threw a distance of 53.51 meters that Fusé should never reach in his entire career; Fusé's best of 52.67 meters dates back to 1940.

In 1937 the Brazilian Assis Naban won , behind Kleger Fusé took third place with 48.38 meters like four years before. In 1939 in Lima, Fusé won the title for the first time with 49.77 meters. In 1941 he finished second behind Naban with 48.98 meters, and in 1943 he won silver with 46.06 meters behind his compatriot Manuel Etchepare . Only at the age of 40 he was able to fight for a second title at the South American Championships in Montevideo in 1945 with 48.33 meters. Fusé received his last medal in 1947 when he finished second with 47.95 meters behind the Chilean Edmundo Zúñiga .

At the age of 43, Fusé made his debut in London in 1948 at the Olympic Games and reached the 20th place in qualification with 46.95 meters. After a fourth place at the South American Championships in 1949 , Fusé was also able to take fourth place at the first Pan American Games in Buenos Aires in 1951.
