Juha-Pekka Haataja (born October 31, 1982 in Oulu ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who has been under contract with KooKoo in the Finnish Liiga since May 2018 .

Career

Juha-Pekka Haataja began his career as an ice hockey player at Kärpät Oulu , for which he made his debut in the SM-liiga in the 2001/02 season when he scored four goals in 15 games in the main round. He was also used in four playoff games. Before that, he had already been active in the junior division for Kärpät, with whom he was Finnish champion in 2004 and 2005 . Furthermore, Haataja was runner-up with Kärpät 2003 and reached the final of the IIHF European Champions Cup with his team in 2005 and 2006 , in which he was defeated by the two Russian representatives HK Awangard Omsk and HK Dynamo Moscow with Kärpät . Before the 2006/07 season , Haataja received a contract with Lukko Rauma , where he was active until 2009. In 2009 he moved within the SM-liiga to Helsingfors IFK , with whom he won the Finnish championship in 2011 .

After five years, Haataja returned to his hometown club Kärpät Oulu for the 2011/12 season and at the end of the 2012/13 season received the Aarne Honkavaara Trophy and Veli Pekka Ketola Trophy as well as an All-Star election due to outstanding personal achievements -Team of the SM-liiga. Because of these successes, some KHL clubs became aware of Haataja and he signed a contract with Atlant Moskowskaja Oblast from the Continental Hockey League in May 2013 . Haataja was unable to assert himself there and returned to Kärpät Oulu after one year in the summer of 2014, before moving to MODO Hockey in the Svenska Hockeyligan in January 2015 during the current season . From October 2015 the attacker played again in Finland and was under contract with KooKoo .
