Radio Gherdëina Dolomites is a radio station that was founded in 1979 by Ivo Walpoth, Arno Mahlknecht and Oswald Rifesser. Since then, the station's management has changed many times. In 1991 the transmitter was bought by the Rabanser family from Ortisei in Val Gardena , who still run the large radio family to this day. Radio Gherdëina Dolomites is the only commercial private broadcaster in the region that broadcasts numerous broadcasts, both live and time-shifted, in Ladin , thus taking into account the various Ladin idioms, German and Italian.

The station can be received in the entire Ladin-speaking area ( Val Gardena , Gadertal , Fassatal , Buchenstein , Colle Santa Lucia and Cortina d'Ampezzo ), as well as in the Eisack Valley , in the Puster Valley , in Bozen and the South Tyrolean Unterland , in Meran and in the Sciliar area .

Radio Gherdëina Dolomites broadcasts various kinds of programs around the clock and sees itself as a promoter of modern and folkloric Ladin music. The news program Südtirol Journal , produced in collaboration with the RMI news agency from Bolzano, is broadcast on the hour .

A study by the State Institute for Statistics ( Astat ) in 2005 showed that the station reached over 13,000 listeners daily and 25,000 weekly in South Tyrol alone , which includes Val Gardena and Val Badia .
